Alice B. Knox, 87, of 1500 Pepper Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Tuesday.
Alice was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Rankin, Ill., to Leo and Icy (Wells) Archambault. She married Walter Knox Jr., on Jan. 31, 1942, in Danville, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1981.
Alice worked at National T and Kroger Grocery Stores as head cashier before she and Walter moved to Phillips where they operated three taverns. After moving to Wisconsin Rapids, Alice worked as a bartender and waitress for Danny K’s.
She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew. She also had a special love of music. Alice lived life to the fullest and liked to golf with her many friends. She was a charter member of the Phillips Chaparral Snowmobile Club and was active in the club for 39 years. In 1996, she received the member of the year award. Alice will be remembered as a loyal wife, mother, and friend.
Alice is survived by two sons: Joe (Karen) Knox of Park Falls, and Dan (Sue) of Albany; two grandchildren: Kari Knox of Columbus, and Andy (Melissa) Knox of Reedsburg; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Jim (Janie) Archambault of Florida; two sisters: Ruth (Frank) Martin and Eileen Roseman, both of Florida; and many golfing “daughters” that called her mom. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Walter III.
