Howe Elementary recognized

State Superintendent Tony Evers named Howe Elementary in Wisconsin Rapids as one of the 116 schools named for the Wisconsin School of Recognition.

“Let’s start the 2011-12 school year celebrating what’s right in education,” he said in a press release.

This is the fourth consecutive year Howe Elementary has received this honor.

The schools received recognition for their success in educating students who come from low-income families with poverty rates based on free and reduced-price school lunch data. For these schools, student achievement on last school year’s state reading and math examinations was above average when compared to similar-sized districts, schools, grade configurations and poverty levels.

“The award recognizes their efforts and sets a tone for the 2011-12 school year: celebrate success, strive for ever-higher achievement and always focus on children’s learning,” Evers said in a press release.

Schools who were recognized will receive a plaque at an Oct. 12 ceremony at the State Capitol along with $5,000 to go towards the school.
