Safety week strives to prevent large truck crashes

From Sept. 11 through Sept. 17, Wisconsin State Patrol, in partnership with county and municipal agencies trained in commercial motor vehicle inspections, will be participating in “Operation Air Brake / Brake Safety Week” sponsored by the Commerical Vehicle Safety Alliance.

During the week, law enforcement agencies will intensify their inspection efforts and identify faulty braking systems on commercial motor vehicles. Inspectors will also educate drivers, mechanics and commercial motor vehicle companies about the importance of checking and maintaining brakes.

Combining law enforcement with safety education has improved commercial motor  vehicle safety in Wisconsin in the past ten years by reducing large truck crashes by 36 percent and reducing large truck crash fatalities by 50 percent.
