Margaret E. Van Meter, age 83, of 630 Pepper Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, formerly of the Town of Armenia, Juneau County, WI died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 PM Monday at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. The Rev. Dean Anderson will officiate, burial will be at a later date in Zion Cemetery, in the Town of Armenia, Juneau County, WI.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 PM until the time of services.
Margaret was born July 4, 1928 in Joliet, Illinois to John and Mary (Klemenc-Skvarcha) Ivec. She married LaVerne D. (“Sarge”)Van Meter on July 6, 1950 in Wisconsin Rapids, he died October 1, 2004.
Margaret did clerical work before her marriage and some seasonal work at cranberry marshes afterwards, but was primarily a homemaker. She and “Sarge” traveled extensively during his 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force, living in Germany, Libya, Guam, and at many bases stateside. They moved to Juneau County in 1968. Marge enjoyed working puzzles, playing board games and card games, planting flowers, and watching The Young And The Restless. She loved to bake cookies and made wonderful lasagna. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include:
Son – Thomas (wife Lorri) Van Meter of Nekoosa, and their children Molly Van Meter, Wisconsin Rapids, and Andrew Van Meter of Nekoosa, and Molly’s daughter, Addison Berry.
Son – Kenneth (wife Christine) Van Meter of Nekoosa, and their children Amy Van Meter of Stevens Point, WI, Wendy Van Meter of Nekoosa, and Tracy Van Meter of Nekoosa.
Son – Robert Van Meter of Wisconsin Rapids.
Margaret is also survived by a half-sister, Frances Collier of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne; her parents; brothers Anton and William Ivec; sister Annabelle McAloon; half-sisters Josephine Haggan, Mary Mackovic, Rose Skvarcha, and Jennie Phifer; and half-brothers Joseph Skvarcha Jr., John Skvarcha, and Joseph Skoirchet.
“She will be missed by friends and family.”
