Delores Lorraine Greenfield, age 88, a former longtime resident of Wisconsin Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2011 at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, WI.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 23, 2011 at First English Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, with the Reverend Joshua Fite and the Reverend Deb Boynton officiating. Visitation will be held at the church at 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service for friends and family. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. A lunch will be served at the church following burial.
Delores was born on May 15, 1923 in the town of Sigel (Wood County) to Peter and Anna (Peterson) Oleson. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point in 1941. She met her life partner, Russell G. Greenfield, in Chicago, IL and married in Geneva, Nebraska on “a weekend pass” on September 1, 1943; they remained married for 64 years until Russell’s death in 2008.
Delores was a devoted wife and mother who considered her 5 grandchildren her greatest gifts and cherished the many memories of the times spent with them. She and Russ traveled extensively and proudly touted that they visited 49 state capitals (Alaska excepted). Delores was employed as a secretary by the Wisconsin Rapids Board of Education for 17 years retiring in 1985.
Delores is survived by two sons, Gary (Valerie) of Eau Claire, WI and James (Kristi) of Shoreline, WA; five grandchildren, Todd (Jane) Greenfield, Tim (Kit Lacy) Greenfield, Erin (Dustin) Highland, Anne (Brett Hackett) Greenfield, David (Whitney) Greenfield; five great grandchildren, Michael Greenfield, Elizabeth Greenfield, Matthew Greenfield, Elsa Highland, Max Highland; sister, Ella Krubsack, and many nieces and nephews.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, Sharon, six sisters, Aurelia Malik, Bernice Hjerstedt, Violet Pike, Eva Herzberg, Margaret Berg, Mildred Kohnen, and three brothers, Roy Oleson, Clarence Oleson and Walter Oleson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.
