October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Each October, memorial services are held to remember the 879,000 babies who die each year through pregnancy loss, stillbirth and newborn death.
Attended by parents, families, friends and health care professionals across the United States, these memorials symbolically unite those who have experienced a loss and those who care for them.
This year, the Wisconsin Rapids area In Our Hearts Forever Memorial (formerly called the Walk to Remember) will be Saturday, Oct. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. in the lower level of Riverview Medical Center. The gathering will include a ceremony to honor all of our babies and time for refreshments and visiting. Everyone who has experienced a pregnancy or infant loss is invited to attend, regardless of when your loss occurred.
The In Our Hearts Forever Memorial provides a remarkable opportunity for families who have experienced a loss to assist with healing and bond with other families. There will also be an opportunity to visit the Riverview Medical Center memorial site at Forest Hill Cemetery for families who have their babies laid to rest there.
