Irma Hirsch, 90, formerly of Pittsville, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Stoney River Assisted Living in Marshfield, WI where she had resided the past three months.
Services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 16 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Hahn will officiate. A private family burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Irma was born March 4, 1921 in West Allis, WI to Joseph and Emma (Klinger) Wolf. She married Carl M. Hirsch in Wisconsin Rapids. He died February 17, 1969.
She attended many different country schools as her family moved often. Irma held a variety of employment positions in her life: a nanny in private homes, a cook in restaurants, a teachers’ aide in the Pittsville Schools, a seasonal worker at Brazeau Cranberry Marsh, a poll worker at the voting polls for the towns of Seneca and Cary, and a receptionist at Herrschner’s in Stevens Point. But, her most important and cherished role in life was that of mother and grandmother.
Her hobbies included reading, cooking and baking, crocheting and knitting, flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching, and most importantly, holding, guiding, and teaching her babies – from her children through her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her eleven children: Carol (James) Gardner, West Bend; Dennis (Geri) Hirsch, Creedmore, NC; Susan (Phil) Beavers, Middleton, WI and Fort Myers, FL; Mary (Patrick Johnson) Hirsch, Marshfield, WI; Linda Frost, Wisconsin Rapids; Gale (James) Olds, Kimberly; Patty (Tom) Hale, Afton, VA; John Hirsch, Marshfield; Kristal (Richard) Jacobson, Pittsville; Teresa (Robert) Glaza, Neillsville; and Rochelle (Steve) Todd, Wisconsin Rapids. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores (George) Larson of California, a brother, Richard (Loretta) Wolf of Minnesota, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wolf of Marshfield.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters-Emma (Elmer “Butch”) Neitzel, and Gertrude (Carl) Adams; 3 brothers-Joseph “Heinie” Wolf, Walter Wolf, and Ervin (Betty) Wolf, and 2 great-grandchildren, Kari and Kristi Proesel.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Pittsville or Ministry Home Care Hospice of Marshfield.
The family wishes to thank Pastor Thomas Hahn, the staffs of Stoney River and Ministry Home Care Hospice for the tender care given to our Mom in her last days.
