Parks briefs: Registration open for Youth Gymnastics

The city of Wisconsin Rapids Parks & Recreation Department is registering participants for Tumble Tykes. Any child age 4 years old to 6 years old is eligible to participate.

Registration must be completed at the office, 444 West Grand Ave., prior to scheduled class or through the mail. Class size is limited. Forms are available on our website: parks.wirapids.org.  All fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $13 per person. The resident fee is $10 per person.

Classes are offered evenings on Mondays or Tuesdays in November.

The purpose of this program is to introduce boys and girls with little or no gymnastics experience. It will increase their confidence, coordination and strength in a relaxed atmosphere.  Training on gymnastics apparatus is also included. Classes are held at the Centralia Center.

Hip hop dance class

The Parks & Recreation Department is registering participants for hip hop dance class. Any child age 7 to age 13 is eligible to participate.

Class will be offered on Monday evenings starting Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The session will end on Nov. 28. The 45 minute classes are held at the Centralia Center. The purpose of this program is to learn dance routines to popular pop and hip hop songs while getting a great workout with today’s hippest music. People of all different levels are welcome; no previous dance experience required – just a desire to dance and have fun.

Registration open for Babysitting Certification

Parks & Recreation Department is registering participants for the Red Cross Babysitting Certification Course. Any person age 11 and older is eligible to participate.

Registration must be completed at the office, 444 West Grand Ave., prior to scheduled class or through the mail. Class size is limited. Forms are available on our website: parks.wirapids.org.   All fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $38 per person. The resident fee is $35 per person.

This one-day class will be offered on Monday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall, 444 West Grand Ave., in the First Floor Conference Room. All participants are to bring a sack lunch to class.

The purpose of this program is intended for students who have the responsibilities of caring for younger children during the absence of their parents. Participants must pass skills and written tests to receive certification. Participants will receive a babysitter’s handbook at registration and a certificate upon completion of the class.

Great Pumpkin Hunt scheduled

The Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the annual Great Pumpkin Hunt on Oct. 31.  Any person age 2 years old to 6 years old is eligible to participate.

This free Halloween event will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 31st at the Witter Field Tennis Courts with preregistration taking place at the courts at 7 p.m.

This is a pre-trick-or-treat event where children search for small treats using a flashlight. Each child should dress in a costume and bring a bag and flashlight. Police supervised. Rain or shine. Bathrooms are closed for the season.
