Gerald F. Wittenberg, age 77, of 8420 Arbor Lane, Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Sunday, October 23, 2011at Riverside Medical Center, Waupaca, WI.
Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. John Steiner will officiate. Burial in Restlawn Memorial Park with military rites provided by American Legion Post #9 of Wisconsin Rapids. Friends may call at Ritchay Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
Gerald was born November 24, 1933 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Arthur and Edna (Hoffman) Wittenberg. He married Shirley Pelot on October 24, 1959 in Pittsville, WI. She died December 6, 2010. Gerald was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc. as a draftsman for over 40 years.
Gerald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954-1956. Gerald was a member of the Wisconsin Rapids Lions Club, served as a district representative for their Leader Dog Program and also was involved in the Lions Eye Bank Program. Gerald was a member of American Legion Post # 9, VFW Post # 2534 of Wisconsin Rapids and was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, Council #1558 of Wisconsin Rapids.
Gerald is survived by two sons, Kent (Julie) Wittenberg and Wade (Tammy Picolo) Wittenberg both of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Tyler, Samantha and Kayla Wittenberg, Amanda Richards and Melissa Rudie; five great grandchildren, Remington Rudie, Preston, Peyton, Odessa and Olivia Richards; two brothers, Delbert Wittenberg of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Charlie (Kathy) Wittenberg of Seattle, WA and three sisters, Marlene (Ken) Krasavage of Carmel, IN, Deloris Zager of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Beverly (Gary) Damrau of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Gerald is also survived by brother and sister in laws, Stan (Anola) Pelot of Pittsville, WI, Jim (Shirley) Pelot of Vesper, WI, Ken (Liz) Pelot of Port Orange, FL, Howard (Peggy) Pelot of Winter, WI and Pat Milow of Florida and close friends, Howard and Joan Williams.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley; sister, Carol Vreeland, and brothers in law, Richard Vreeland and Don Zager.
In lieu of flowers a memorial in Gerald’s name will be established at a later date.
