Registration open for Central Wisconsin Farm Fresh Atlas

The Central Wisconsin Farm Fresh Atlas is now accepting applications for farm, business,

organization and farmers’ market listings for its 2012 edition. The atlas features business that

are part of the local food economy in 11 counties in Central Wisconsin, and is available free of

charge to consumers.

“The 2012 Central Wisconsin Farm Fresh Atlas will be our fifth atlas edition. Each year the

atlas has grown bigger and better. It is the best guide to finding local food and products in our

region.” said Anne Hylla with Central Rivers Farmshed. “Consumers want the freshest, best

tasting and healthiest food available. Additionally, they want to help preserve farms as part of

cultural landscape. The atlas helps people find growers or patronize businesses that support

local, sustainable agriculture.”

Farming is hard work and leaves little time for marketing and promotion.

“It was well worth the money to list in the Central WI Farm Fresh Atlas, I’ve gotten several new

customers I otherwise wouldn’t have reached with word of mouth alone.” said Joel Koenhold of

Whistlestop Farm in Milladore. “I also appreciate having the atlas to know what other farmers

are doing and help me diversify or fill a niche in my area. As an Ag teacher, in my sustainable

agriculture unit, I use the atlas as a tool for the students to devise meal plans using local food.

This user-friendly guide makes it easy for students to find those products, then take it home and share it with their families.”

Farmers who sell directly to consumers through on-farm sales, farm stands, farmers’ markets,

CSA’s, or U-Pick operations or through other methods can be listed in the Atlas. Any food

related business that also supports farmers such as cheese factories, food co-ops, restaurants, bakeries, meat processors are encouraged to participate with a business listing or advertisement.

The cost to list a farm in the atlas is $50. Businesses listings are $100. There is also color

advertisement space available, which include a listing. They are as follows: an 1/8 page is $150, a quarter page is $250, a half page $475, a full page $950. Applications are due Nov. 15.

Atlases will be available for distribution beginning in April of 2012.

In 2012, 30,000+ atlases will be printed and distributed at farmers’ markets, through

participating farms and businesses and through tourism and convention bureaus, public libraries, and events such as county fairs. Target counties include Adams, Clark, Juneau, Marathon, Marquette, Monroe, Portage, Taylor, Waushara, Waupaca, and Wood. Additionally, farms outside of this area can be included if they sell their products within these target counties. All farm and businesses who list in the atlas will also have their information on our website www.farmshed.org.
