2011 American Honey Queen to visit central Wisconsin

Teresa Bryson, the 2011 American Honey Queen, will visit Plainfield, WI October 31-November 5. Her trip is in conjunction with the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association’s annual convention at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids from Nov. 3 to 6.

During her stay, she will also visit several schools in Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Plover, Junction City, Plainfield, Nekoosa, and Vesper, speaking about the importance of beekeeping and honeybee pollination in the State of Wisconsin and throughout the United States.

On Nov. 5, she, along with Wisconsin Honey Queen Danielle Dale, will be on hand at the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association’s Kids ‘N’ Bees Expo, a hands-on learning experience for children of all ages from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. The Kids ‘N’ Bees expo is free and open to the public.

Teresa is the 20-year-old daughter of Tom and Linda Bryson of Chambersburg, PA. She is a junior at Hagerstown Community College, double majoring in English and forensic science. At school, she is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the Dean’s List. She is a 4-H leader and has been keeping bees for three years on her family’s farm.

As the 2011 American Honey Queen, Teresa serves as a national spokesperson on behalf of the American Beekeeping Federation, a trade organization representing beekeepers and honey producers throughout the United States. The Honey Queen and Princess speak and promote in venues nationwide, and, as such Queen Teresa will travel throughout the United States during her year-long reign.

Prior to being selected as the American Honey Queen, Teresa served as the 2010 Pennsylvania Honey Queen. In this role, she promoted the honey industry at fairs, festivals, and

farmers’ markets, via television and radio interviews, and in schools.

The beekeeping industry touches the lives of every individual in our country. In fact, honeybees are responsible for nearly one-third of our entire diet, due to the pollination services that they provide for a large majority of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes. This amounts to nearly $15 billion per year of direct value from honeybee pollination to United States agriculture.
