Eric Gordon Hedquist, 80, Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday October 31, 2011 at Riverview Medical Center, Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at Higgins Funeral Home 631 East Grand Ave. in Wisconsin Rapids from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday November 5th with a memorial service to follow.
Eric was born May 24, 1931 to Eric and Martha (Hellum) Hedquist. On August 19, 1961 he married Shirley Granke. She preceeded him in death.
Eric was a Navy Veteran. He was a math teacher at Neillsville High School and at Wisconsin Rapids High School. He was an avid hiker and world traveler. Among his many other interests and hobbies, Eric was an avid reader, clock builder and wood carver. He loved attending plays and the theater.
Survivors include his son John, Wisconsin Rapids, his sister-in-law, Lola, Stevens Point one niece, two nephews and a close family friend, Jean Hilger. Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Martha, his wife, Shirley, his brother, John and two sisters, Marie and Louise Hedquist In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the South Wood County Special Olympics and to the South Wood County Humane Society.
Higgins Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
