Eight-year-old hit by pick-up truck

A few minutes after 4 p.m. on Nov. 11, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department responded to a report of a traffic accident involving an eight-year-old boy being hit at the intersection of 14th Avenue and West Grand Avenue.

Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department and Ambulance also responded to the scene where the boy was hit by a black pick-up truck and thrown approximately 75 feet after impact. The boy had been reportedly seen with a group of children at the time of the accident.

Police have one eye-witness to the incident who was gone by the time the VOICE arrived on the scene.

“I don’t know how he’s going to be,” said Lieutenant Brian Krzykowski of the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department.

The Wisconsin State Patrol will be investigating the accident as two of the lanes remained closed.

We need to hold the area until measurements are done, Krzykowski said.

Police still had the male driver in custody at 5 p.m. for questioning.

The boy, whose name and condition are unknown, was taken to Riverview Hospital where his relatives were taken to as well.

More details will be posted as information becomes available.
