City releases names of Housing Authority candidates

The Wisconsin Rapids Housing Authority could pick its next executive director in a Nov. 30 meeting.

The commission will meet at 10 a.m. and discuss an offer of employment in closed session. It will then consider approving the hiring of a new executive director in open session.

After three recent meetings, the commission narrowed its list of final candidates down to Jo Ann Grode and Luisa Kevil.

Grode is an associate dean of Mid-State Technical College’s Service and Health Division; Kevil is manager of Covered Bridges Apartments in Carol Stream, Ill.

The names of the two applicants were not immediately made available to the public. When asked the identity of the final candidates for the position, commission Chairwoman Yvonne Jorgensen said, “That, I will not tell you.”

The following day, however, City Attorney Sue Schill released the names.

Of the 33 applicants, six were interviewed Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 with Grode and Kevil interviewed a second time Nov. 21, said Schill in an email.

The position was open after Jeff Raasch pled guilty Nov. 1 to child pornography charges that were viewed on his work computer. Members of the commission admitted to knowing about a 1997 conviction of a misdemeanor charge stemmed from Raasch touching a 15-year-old student when he was a coach and teacher in the Roscholt School District.
