Obituary of Ray W. Plenge

Ray W. Plenge of Wisconsin Rapids passed away at home Tuesday, December 13, 2011.  He was born on November 1, 1921 in the Town of Port Edwards, the son of Carl and Adelaide Plenge.  On August 26, 1942 he married Shirley Jane Frost.

Ray served in the 616th Field Artillery Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during WWII.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and the 10th Mountain Division Association.

Ray worked for Consolidated Papers on the # 13 Paper Board Machine. He started April 4, 1941 and retired as Supervisor on January 31, 1984 after 43 years of service.    

He spent many joyful hours during his retirement years working on his tree farm near Babcock.  Ray became one of the first members of the Consolidated Papers Tree Farm system in 1975.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman with deer and duck hunting being his favorites.  He was a faithful fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.  

His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, his daughter Rena (Donn) Stout of Fond du Lac, two grandchildren, Thomas (Tricia) Stout of Stockbridge and Daniel Stout of Madison and three great grandchildren, Owen, Jensen and Mason Stout of Stockbridge.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Evelyn Werderits and Sadie Vanderhei and five brothers Romeo, Reno, Ruben, Richard and Rollo.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Riverview Hospital and Ministry Home Care Hospice Services for the supportive and tender care he received.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids.  

A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Taylor Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park.  Military rites will be provided by VFW Post #2534 of Wisconsin Rapids.
