Curling Club offers learn to curl program

The Tri-City Curling Club is offering a 3-week “Learn to Curl” program beginning Tuesday, January 10. Participants will learn about the history of the sport, team structure, proper clothing and equipment, how the game is played, the scoring system, curling terminology, game strategies, watch curling videos and demonstrations.

On January 17, qualified instructors will work individually with class members teaching the proper techniques of delivering and sweeping stones. The program will conclude on January 24 when the students will play a complete game of curling with coaching assistance. Participants will have the opportunity to join a short New Curler League that begins on February 1.

Cost for the Learn to Curl program is $20 for adults and $10 for juniors, 21 years and under. Each session begins at 6:00 p.m. and will last about 2 hours. Advance registration is required and the class size is limited to 20 participants in order to maximize individual instruction time.

Registration forms are available on the club’s website www.tri-citycurlingclub.com or by calling 715-423-4407 or 715-423-1910.

Curling is a lifetime sport that can be played by the entire family and played well regardless of age or physical ability. It provides a combination of exercise, competition, and camaraderie that few sports can offer. The Tri-City Curling Club in Wisconsin Rapids is one of only 80 dedicated curling clubs in the United States and is located at Hurley and 2nd Avenue near the Centralia Dam.
