Motorists should stay aware of changing road conditions
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, along with the State Patrol, are encouraging motorists to keep an eye on changing weather conditions over the next two days.
The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories throughout the state, with rain, wind and snow predicted. The snow fall rate is expected to be low, but totals may be significant especially in the southern and eastern part of the state. High winds are also expected to accompany the snow.
Motorists who plan to travel are advised to monitor weather and road conditions before leaving.
DOT traffic safety officials offer the following advice for safe driving during severe winter weather:
-Check road conditions by calling 5-1-1
-If you have a smart or Web-enabled phone, you can go to www.511wi.gov.
-Remember, the speed limit is based on clear roads and dry pavement; don’t drive too fast for conditions.
-Watch for slippery spots on bridges and overpasses.
-Take note of mileposts, exit numbers or crossroads in case you slide off the road or are involved in a crash so that law enforcement officers and tow truck operators can find you.
