Authorities follow tips, trails in search for missing man

Authorities continue conducting the search for a Wisconsin Rapids man who has been missing since the early morning of Jan. 14.

Three sources informed the police that 29-year-old Greg Senn was last seen walking north on 80th Street around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 14.

“We ascertain he was last seen early Saturday morning,” Grand Rapids Police Chief Dave Lewandowski said.

Senn, who was dropped off at the the 6000 block of 80th Street to visit a friend on Jan. 13, decided to leave the residence at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 and stated he was walking to his home on the 1000 block of First Street in Wisconsin Rapids. While Senn has family and other friends who live in Grand Rapids, he has not visited any of those locations, Lewandowski said.

Police were informed of Senn’s disappearance around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 14 when his brother called stating he hadn’t heard from Senn, Lewandowski said.

With a bloodhound searching due to inclement weather on Jan. 17, the Grand Rapids Police Department sent out a call to local agencies to resume the search at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 18. The morning’s search included investigating an area by South Park off of 80th Street.

When we are done searching the South Park area, we will re-evaluate what we have and see if there are areas to search again, Lewandowski said.

The search, which began with the Grand Rapids Police Department conducting a patrol search of streets after receiving the call Jan. 14, has involved up to 60 people from multiple departments. At the suspension of the Jan. 15 effort, members of the Grand Rapids, Rome, Nekoosa, Biron and Port Edwards fire departments as well as the Wood County Rescue, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Spirit of Marshfield had assisted with the investigation.

The search continued Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. with 25 workers between the Grand Rapids Fire Department and Wood County Rescue searching residential and wooded areas as far north as North Park Road, as far south as Townline Road, as far west as 64th Street and as far east as 110th Street in Portage County.

“We are concentrating our efforts to the north, east and west,” Lewandowski said.

“We are running out of places to search,” he said. “It’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack.”

As well as the search, the police are still inquiring the events that happened prior to Senn leaving the residence on 80th Street.

“I’m not suspecting foul play at this point in time,” Lewandowski said, although he would not divulge why.

“It’s an ongoing investigation,” he said.

While civilian volunteers have come forward to offer assistance, Lewandowski prefers using department resources at this time.

“We are getting the manpower we need (from different agencies),” he said. “We don’t want anyone else getting hurt or lost.”

Although citizens are not needed for the physical search of Senn, Lewandowski is requesting landowners to check unoccupied land as well as outbuildings and trail cameras that are in Grand Rapids or in Grant.

People should call the police if they have information no matter if they think it’s relevant or not to the investigation, he said.

So far, the police have received numerous tips from people believing they have seen Senn.

“People have called about sightings over the weekend and we’re investigating those,” Lewandowski said. “Sightings have been all over (the area).”

Senn is described as a 5-foot-10 man with black hair and brown eyes. He wears glasses and was last seen wearing a blue jean Redwings jersey jacket.

“We’re hoping we can find him, but it is going on three days (as of Jan. 16) and it’s getting hard,” Lewandowski said.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of 29-year-old Senn, please call 911
