The search for a missing Wisconsin Rapids man was suspended Jan. 22 while local authorities continue investigate the incident.
“Unless we receive information from someone to search an area that we have not searched yet, we will not (continue to) do a physical search at this point,” Grand Rapids Police Chief Dave Lewandowski said. “We’ve exhausted all areas (to search).”
With below-zero temperatures and other inclement weather hindering the search for 29-year-old Greg Senn, who was last seen walking north on 80th Street at 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, the Grand Rapids Police Department received assistance over the weekend from canines and handlers from throughout the state as well as Illinois and Minnesota.
Using bloodhounds, tracking dogs and cadaver dogs, which are dogs trained to find deceased bodies, the search consisted 10 dogs with their handlers on Jan. 21 and five dogs with their handlers on Jan. 22.
By recommendation from the dogs’ handlers, we didn’t want people on the grounds at the same time the dogs were out, said Lewandowski.
“At this point in time, they (the dogs) gave us some clues we are working with,” he said. “They confirmed some of the calls we received of his whereabouts in the early morning (Jan. 14).”
Senn was dropped off at the 6000 block of 80th Street to visit a friend on Jan. 13 and decided to leave the residence at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 14.
While Senn has family and other friends who live in Grand Rapids, he has not visited any of those locations, Lewandowski said in a Jan. 16 interview.
Three sources informed the police that Senn was last seen walking north on 80th Street around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 14.
The Grand Rapids Police Department, with help from other local agencies, have searched for Senn daily since his disapperance was reported the night of Jan. 14. A search on Jan. 18 consisted of Wood County Rescue divers searching undereneath the 80th Street bridge in Lake Wazeecha. Since Jan. 18, searches have either been short or suspended due to the harsh winter weather.
“Weather is playing a major factor on what we’re trying to do,” Lewandowski said.
After looking at all logical areas as well as investigating areas that people have reported seeing Senn, Lewandowski thinks all areas have been searched therefore suspending the search at this point.
Lewandowski encourages citizens to search any property owned in Grand Rapids or Grant, call in information about Senn’s whereabouts and to get the word out of the disappearance.
“There are still people not aware of his disappearance,” he said.
As the investigation continues to move forward with people reporting information, Lewandowski continues to stay in contact with Senn’s family, informing them of what the investigators are doing for the day.
“At this point in time, it is still an investigation of trying to find a missing person,” he said.
Senn is described as a 5-foot-10 man with black hair and brown eyes. He wears glasses and was last seen wearing a blue jean Redwings jersey jacket.
If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of 29-year-old Senn, please call 911.
“We are going to run this investigation until we find him,” Lewandowski said.
